From The Eyes Above
When making this piece I imagined I was flying alongside a kestrel, watching it in all its glory as it hovers over the moorland below. Her yellow eyes glinting in the light of a clear blue sky as she seeks out her prey. Her wings being gently caressed by the air as they work in tune keeping her steady in the vast open sky.
A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the kestrel was achieved through quilting and free hand embroidery. These techniques create the different textures from the soft warm feathers to the vastness of the moors. Unfortunately, the three-dimensional relief doesn't show particularly well in the photos, so please take a look at the depth of the piece to get an idea of the overall effect.
