Grasping The Brush

Grasping The Brush

The aromatic Bottlebrush starts to bloom sending delicate crimson red spikes in all directions. Its long arching stem makes the perfect perch for this Goldfinch who uses it to scout for flies which are attracted to the sweet scent of the Bottlebrush.

A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the Goldfinch, flower and stem were achieved through quilting, applique, embroidery, techniques. These techniques create the different textures from the warm feathers to the delicate, soft flower.
