Hazel
When the garden starts to turn its back on winter, the hazel tree readies itself for a new year. It forms long, slender catkins that dangle like jewels from its branches. They make the perfect winter snack for a hungry mouse.
A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the mouse , catkin and branchs were achieved through quilting, applique, embroidery, techniques. These techniques create the different textures from the warm fur of the mouse to the golden catkins. Unfortunately, the three-dimensional relief doesn't show particularly well in the photos, so please take a look at the depth of the piece to get an idea of the overall effect.
