On the barren, dried grassland of the winter moors with its vast, open, blue sky above, a fox with its rich auburn coat pounces down on the burrowing mole below. Their fast movement disturbing the desolate peace of the moors.
A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted the fox, grass and mole hill were achieved through quilting, appliqué, painting and both hand and free hand embroidery. These techniques create the different textures from the soft warm fur of the fox to the mole hill. Unfortunately, the three-dimensional relief doesn't show particularly well in the photos, so please take a look at the depth of the piece to get an idea of the overall effect.
