As the sun sets over a frozen lake a Lapwing who has moved inland for the winter, finds an abundance of food in the long icy grass, next to the waters edge. It's not long before he realised he has ventured too far out onto the ice. He struggles to find his footing,  he slips and slides all over the ice as if skating.

A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and embroidered, the lapwing, grass, seed heads and snow were achieved through quilting, embroidery and three-dimensional techniques. Unfortunately, this doesn't show particularly well in the photos, so please take a look at the depth of the piece to get an idea of the overall effect.
