Startled Hare
The world is full of threats and dangers for us all, but for the worlds smaller creatures these threats are continual and the only way to survive is to keep alert. Startled by the shadows above a startled hare cowers down, camouflaged in a barley field, it hides under the bobbing barley heads. Keeping it eyes wide it scours the field and sky ready to scarper at any point.
A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the foxes were achieved through quilting, painting and embroidery. These techniques create the different textures from the soft fur of the hare to the seed heads. Unfortunately, the three-dimensional relief doesn't show particularly well in the photos, so please take a look at the depth of the piece to get an idea of the overall effect.
