The Harvesting Mouse

The Harvesting Mouse

As the seasons change day to day a blue, frosty hue is cast over the garden. Surrounded by the tall, round seed heads of the golden globe thistle, a Harvest Mouse sits on the last of the flowering heads. It happily feeds on the sweet delights of the flower head and sits contemplating the feast to follow when he harvests its many seeds.

A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the mouse, flower, leaves and seed heads were achieved through quilting, applique, free hand embroidery, three dimensional techniques. These techniques create the different textures from the soft warm fur to the golden seed heads. Unfortunately, the three-dimensional relief doesn't show particularly well in the photos, so please take a look at the depth of the piece to get an idea of the overall effect.
