As the tide draws out, the soft sandy coastline reveals itself, along with its many inhabitances. Making the most of the low tide this Hermit Crab explores his surroundings when he happens across a couple of seashells and with them a tangled piece of seaweed. Touching the shell with its antennae, he sizes up the seashell. No this isn't large enough to make a new home, but perhaps it hides a small delight amongst the weed? A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the hermit crab, shells and sand were achieved through quilting, applique, embroidery, textile techniques.
