The Unravelling Hedgehog
This young hedgehog slowly wakes from a day of rest. Having been curled up tight in a ball on the woodland floor, she now gently unravels. In gradually freeing herself, she exposes a soft underbelly, her legs unfold and her head pokes up. With open eyes, she catches the first glance of her surroundings and lays a moment on a mossy covered rock, which makes a perfect cushion in which to do so.
A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the hedgehog, fern, moss and rock were achieved through quilting, applique, embroidery, textile techniques.
