The Veg Patch

The vegetable garden is a rabbit's larder, lots of tasty treats all neatly grown in rows, just ready for the taking. Here two rabbits make the most of the quiet morning by visiting the veg garden. Onion not to their taste they knock their way through the rows and decide to make a feast out of the lettuce patch instead. Though when a distant noise sounds their rabbit ears twitch and it means its time to scarper.

A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the rabbit lettuce, soil and onions were achieved through quilting, appliqué, painting and embroidery. These techniques create the different textures from the soft fur of the rabbit to the delicate onion skins. Unfortunately, the three-dimensional relief doesn't show particularly well in the photos, so please take a look at the depth of the piece to get an idea of the overall effect.
