Wishful Thinking

Wishful Thinking

Hidden within the wild grass moorland a fox slowly prowls on a solitary hare, who is seemingly unaware of its presence. Unable to control its excitement the fox dives in for the catch, but this sly hare has other ideas. It darts off out of the heavy grassland, flushing the fox out into plain sight and makes a dash for it. The determined fox chases the hare in high pursuit as they both shred the grass and soil beneath them in this match of wits.

A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the fox, hare, grass and soil were achieved through quilting, both hand and free hand embroidery. These techniques create the different textures from the soft warm fox and hare to the shredded grass. Unfortunately, the three-dimensional relief doesn't show particularly well in the photos, so please take a look at the depth of the piece to get an idea of the overall effect.
