Huddled Together

Huddled Together

On a branch deep in the hedgeline away from the north wind, the chattering and squabbling of a family of Long Tailed Tits can be heard. As the cold winter night has drawn in now is the time to huddle together to keep warm. They clamber on top of each other, tosing and shoving each other aside to get to their favourite position, for no one wants to be at either end! After a short commotion positions have been earnt and held making it finally time sleep.

A number of techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the long tailed tit and branches were achieved through quilting, applique, embroidery, techniques. These techniques create the different textures from the soft warm feathers to the grain of the branch. Unfortunately, the three-dimensional relief doesn't show particularly well in the photos, so please take a look at the depth of the piece to get an idea of the overall effect.

Framed it measures 41cm X 33cm X 2.5cm

This piece has been professionally framed, with a white mount and white box frame, with glass. It is ready to hang.
