Homegrown Happiness

Amongst the curling vines and broad green leaves, a little wood mouse has discovered the cosiest of hideaways inside a golden autumn squash. With a tiny seed held close and the world safely beyond its doorway, it settles into its own little haven, where the simplest treasures are sometimes the ones that make us happiest.

Several techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the mice, squash and leaves were achieved through quilting, applique, embroidery, and textile techniques.
