Until the Skies Clear

As autumn rain tumbles through the woodland, two nuthatches tuck themselves into the hollow of an old tree, sheltered beneath the delicate canopy of a woodland mushroom. Beyond their little refuge, the leaves glisten and the branches sway, but here they wait out the passing shower, reminding us that even the wildest hearts need somewhere safe to rest.

Several techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the Nuthatch, tree, mushroom, rain and leaves were achieved through quilting, applique, embroidery, beading and textile techniques.
