A Flash Of Blue

In a heartbeat, the kingfisher bursts from the river, a glimmer of sapphire against the morning light, a silver fish clasped triumphantly in its beak. As quickly as it appears, it is gone again, leaving only widening ripples and the feeling that you've witnessed something wonderfully rare.
 
Several techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the Kingfisher, fish, and branch were achieved through quilting, applique, embroidery, and textile techniques.
