Guardian of the Morning

As dawn gently unfolds across the river, the grey heron stands quietly upon weathered wooden posts, watching as ribbons of mist drift across the still water. In the hush before the world awakens, it feels as though the river has entrusted the morning to its care.
 
Several techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the Heron, posts, and reeds were achieved through quilting, applique, embroidery, and textile techniques.
