The Observant Spirit

High on a budding hazel branch, a wood mouse pauses, its tiny paw curled around the limb as it gazes out over the quiet unfolding of the woodland beyond. Around it, catkins dangle like golden lanterns, swaying gently in the hush of early spring, as if the trees themselves were whispering secrets of the season to their smallest witness.
 
Several techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the mouse, catkins, and leaves were achieved through quilting, applique, embroidery, and textile techniques.
