The Spangled Cotinga

As a glow is cast over the Rainforest by the setting sun, a beautiful blue Spangled Cotinga perches on the leaf of a blooming orchid, bathing in the last light.
 
Several techniques and mediums were used in the creation of this piece. The background is fabric painted and the Cotinga, orchid and leaves were achieved through quilting, applique, embroidery, and three-dimensional techniques.
